21. December 25th has been celebrated as Christmas since the Bible was written.
True
False

So now hear are the answers.

1. Mary Matthew 1:18 "This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary..."
2. Bethlehem Matthew 2:1 "After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea..."
3. Carpenter Matthew 13:55 "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary...."
4. There was no room. Luke 2:7 "...because there was no room for them in the inn."
5. Who knows? The Bible doesn't say. Some suppose that she rode something since she was so far along in her pregnancy.
6. Manger Luke 2:7 "...and laid him in a manger;..."
7. Feeding Trough It comes from a Greek word that means "to eat".
8. The Bible doesn't say.
9. None of the above. The Bible only talks about the wise(magi) coming to see Jesus. The Bible never describes them as kings. It's just the song that says "We three kings of orient are". Matthew 2:1 "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem."
10. None of the above Luke 2:12 "And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."
11. Glory to God.... Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Most of these other songs were written long after Christ died.
12. A valuable incense made from the sap of a tree.
13. A valuable spice sometimes used in burials.
14. No one knows, but more than one. Some suppose that there were three since there were three gifts, but that is just a guess. Matthew 2:1 "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem."
15. Star Gazers. Star gazers could often navigate, predict the times for best planting, knew math, astronomy, and calendar systems. They were very important in agricultural societies.
16. House Matthew 2:11 "And when they were come into the house, they saw the youth child with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshipped him: and when they had oped their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
17. Caesar Augustus Luke 2:1,4 "And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem."
18. Joseph was told in a dream to do it. Matthew 2:13 "And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."
19. None of the above. The story of a drummer boy meeting Jesus is not in the Bible.
20. Matthew and Luke only. Mark and John do not talk about the birth of Jesus.
21. False. Although the Bible talks about the birth of Jesus, it never uses the word Christmas. As best as we know, the earliest Christians didn't even celebrate Christmas. Later, several different dates were observed by Christians but it wasn't until about the 4th century that December 25th became the common day of celebration. The fact is that no one really knows when Jesus was born.

So, how did you score?

6 More Days

Yes I count down till Christmas. This year surprisingly I only started a week ago. It's my favorite time of year so why not count down. I just finished a batch of Peppernuts (no clue how to spell it how we actually pronounce it), and some of our presents have already left our house to slowly make themselves over to Alberta. This is the first year we needed to find a way to get our presents to family, without using the postal service. Thankfully we have friends going to visit family close to where LeRoy's family is, so they were willing to swap gifts for us. So when they come back beginning of January, we'll have another Christmas to open gifts from LeRoy's side. I wish we could be there to see them when they open the gifts from us though, maybe we can at least be on the phone when they open them.

Every year we read the Christmas story, and seem to continually be reminding how God sent Jesus as a baby. Leroy found a quiz this year he used in his Sunday School class, to see how much we actually know of the Biblical version of the Christmas story. It's very surprising to find out how much of what we think is in the story, actually isn't. I'll have to ask him where that quiz is and post it on here. It's definitely a discussion starter.

10 Days to Go

Till Christmas that is. Can you believe it is almost here? We just finished wrapping the last present, and it is under the tree. Brooklyn is actually leaving the presents alone, but is excited to hold them. Haven't had to re wrap one yet. It's bound to happen at some point I am sure though. LeRoy is counting down the days till he is done work, 5 to go. His shop actually closes down for Christmas till after the New Year, so he has a week and a half off. We're very excited for that of course, but it will feel different that we'll be home that whole time. Usually if we have that much time we head off to Alberta to visit his family, or have them over, but not this year. Me being almost 8 months pregnant has something to do with that. But thankfully we will see his family in February when baby is born.

Last night we had a Christmas party with some friends, without the kids. We drove through Winter Wonderland (it's a Christmas light show just outside of the city. Thousands of lights.) Afterwards we went to Olive Garden to enjoy a late supper. I think we starting eating at 9:30. It was so much fun to be out late and feel young again. I know we're not that old at all, but with a kid it sure feels like we're old, when we're ready for bed by 10. It was nice that we didn't have Brooklyn all night too, could actually relax when we got up this morning and enjoy a bit of shopping without her.

Well it's time to play some Personal Preference. Hope you are all just as excited as we are for this Christmas season.

Frustrating

So we are supposed to be getting our water heater replaced, and it was supposed to happen on Monday. We haven't heard anything yet this week. Hydro gave us till today for something to happen, and even called this morning. Hopefully they will give us a few days grace and we'll hear something soon. I'm getting quite frustrated with just waiting around for a phone call, trying not to plan much in case they might come.

Some Rambling

Today is another day when LeRoy is needing to work aaaaaaaaaaalllllllllll day. He is working on a bathroom vanity, and laundry unit for friends of ours. It will be nice when he is finished (hopefully next week he can install it), and have him home a bit more again. He's had to work a few evenings and a Saturday in the last couple weeks, and he does it to help out our growing family. So who knows when he'll be home tonight, he's hoping to finish it, so it could be a really late night.

Yesterday morning I had been up a bit and was making a few phonecalls. Brooklyn was still in bed, but I had opened her door so she knew she could get up if she wanted to. I had heard her talking so I told her she could get up and come downstairs. I've done this a few times but she always waits for me to go get her, so I expected the same thing this morning. While I was on the phone, all of a sudden, there was Brooklyn standing in our living room, just smiling at me. It was so weird to see her up, and I didn't have to carry her down. Just one more way in which she isn't much baby anymore. Oh, and a new thing she says is when someone sneezes or coughs, "bless me". Or that's what it sounds like anyway.

Yesterday we put up our Christmas decorations, and decorated our tree, so now it really feels like Christmas. We thought of making our gingerbread house tomorrow, but we may wait a bit yet for that. Less time for Brooklyn to get into it before we actually eat it. Better go wake that girl up now, she's been sleeping over 3 hours. I guess that's what immunizations can do to a kid.

Ultrasound Pics

We finally received our ultrasound pictures in the mail, but are a little dissapointed. There aren't any clear pics of the face or much else. But I have put a few pics of feet and hands on our picture site, so for those of you who are interested you can go there to view them. We also got a video that shows the heart pumping that I am posting down below. Baby's chin is on the very left of the picture, it's spine is on the lower part of the picture (the white line), a hand is moving between it's chin and heart, and the heart should be pretty obvious. It's the pumping type movement. Hope that can make enough sense to enjoy.

I realized that our poll is over and it seems most people who voted think we are having a boy. 19 people voted, and 12 think it will be a boy opposed to 7 who think a girl. Actually 18 people voted, my dad says we're having one of each. Thankfully the ultrasound showed otherwise.

18 Months

Lately I have been thinking a lot of when Brooklyn was born, and how things were when she was a baby. Most likely this is caused with expecting another one soon, and thinking of what we may expect. Then earlier this week I realized that today she is officially 1 1/2. I didn't think this would feel like a milestone or anything, but I am really feeling like it is a big day. We accomplished raising her without going too insane for 1 1/2 years already and without too many bumps on the way. She has grown into a toddler, only a tiny bit of her still a baby, using her personality to learn to new things daily. We have been so blessed with Brooklyn, spoiled with her compared to most kids. Some not so fun times included bringing her to the emergency when she fell down the stairs, chicken pox, some kind of mouth disease, and only a couple colds. Even teething for Brooklyn wasn't that bad as many of her teeth all of a sudden just appeared. Now we are only waiting for the 2 year molars and we'll be done.

Within this last week I have felt like I lost a lot of my baby as she moved from her crib to her big girl's bed. I have found this the hardest "letting go" so far. She no longer needs the walls of the crib to keep her safe. She's relying on herself mostly, learning to trust herself more, to not let herself fall out of the bed.

I'm not sure what other sappy stuff to write, there are too many memories to even begin. So I will end off with posting some pics of Brooklyn's room renovation, the pics I promised 2 months ago already.

One Other Thing

Our car is fixed. It thankfully was only the battery and not the alternator like we were thinking. So we it was able to be up and driving after a couple days. Phew.

Few Different Things

Friday was our (my mom, sister, and me) annual Christmas baking day. We made a total of 5 different kinds of cookies, that should last till January sometime, in our house here anyway. We always have lots of fun doing this together, and this year it was no exception as my brother was also at home, doing other stuff, but around enough to be part of some of the laughter and good times. We usually try to pick a day to bake when the guys aren't around so they can't eat everything that we make right away.

Yesterday we had a Grey Cup Party at our place with 4 other couples. So including kids we were 15 in our small home. It was so much fun, despite the fact that our Bombers lost to their enemy the Riders'. One friend was quite happy, as she was the only one whole heartedly cheering for them. It had been a long time since we have had people over for some kind of party, and it was great. Lots of food, fun, cheering, and then sleep.

Our girl Brooklyn, somehow has learned that it can be funny when people hurt themselves, or she's told not to do something. I didn't think kids could learn this so early, but Brooklyn has a bit. Yesterday in church a little boy her age, tripped and fell. She looked away, snickered, and continued on with playing. I couldn't believe it. Where did she learn to do that and think it is funny. The other day she was wanting to push her buddy Carter, and I told her not to. She turned away from me and intentionally laughed. What are we going to do with her? So far we can just laugh behind her back cause it looks kinda funny. I just hope she doesn't really realize what she is doing.

New Pics

I have added some new pics, so just click on the link to your right.

Emotional Me

I am so thankful to be part of a group, where we can share absolutely anything on our hearts and minds. Joys in our lives, or struggles that we are going through. But I don't know if I have ever been in a situation where I almost feel awkward because something has been such a blessing to me, but to others it has been the biggest struggle of their lives. A comment was made yesterday at this particular group, that when we get married we expect everything will fall into place just like we plan, especially with having kids exactly when we want them. Well, I fall into that category, because for us we have been one of the fortunate few who have not had to struggle in any sort with having kids. But the others who were with me all do. It makes me ache to know not everyone can have kids as easy as us, and I don't always know what to say since I haven't been there. I just pray I have never said anything stupid to hurt them in any way when it comes to this topic.

As I was leaving my friend's place last night with Brooklyn at 11:00, our car decides not to start. UGH. We go back inside, some guys try a couple things only ending up parking our car on the street in front of the house. It is still sitting there today. I hate car trouble.

When I finally got home, I cried. And cried, and cried. What an emotional evening. Usually when it comes to car trouble I am needed to try and get LeRoy through it. This time it is the other way around. And now as I am still in this emotional mode, I am trying to make the decision whether or not to attend a playgroup this morning, with lots of noisy children. I just don't know if I can handle that today.

Little Less Baby

Right now Brooklyn is having her first nap in her big girl's bed. It's feeling very weird for me now, I am almost emotional about it. It took her awhile to realize she was actually suppose to sleep in there instead of just play, but she's now been sleeping (or I think she is) for over an hour. We're going to see how she gets use to napping in her new bed, and then start her nights in there too. Right now there is no rush to have her transfered, but it would be nice for her to have awhile in her new room before the baby comes. It just might help a little with a new baby transition. Hopefully then she doesn't feel the baby is taking everything of hers away. Once I get around to taking pictures I will finally post some before and after shots of her new room.

Accomplishments

We are so proud of Brooklyn as she has maybe accomplished being somewhat okay with being without us. We got a babysitter Friday evening, first time a non family member has babysat her. We expected her to scream until bedtime, but she just cried a little and then was fine. We were so excited as we now won't be scared to do that again. Sunday morning she also stayed downstairs at church to play while we could actually listen to our service. This was the first time she did this as well. We'll see if she lets us leave her there again.

Saturday we spent the day Christmas shopping. We thought we'd just get LeRoy's family gifts done, as we may have to send them with someone soon so they get to Alberta for Christmas. (We won't be spending Christmas with his family this year.) At the end of our shopping day we went over things we bought, and our list of people to buy for, and....WE'RE DONE. I still can't believe it, and have a feeling we've forgotten about someone. It sure feels good though, but a little disappointing as now I don't have an excuse to go shopping. Well I do want to get LeRoy something yet, but really need to think what.

Yesterday we spent the day at home, just us three. It was so relaxing, we don't do this very often. Brooklyn and I both had naps while LeRoy finished watching the Bombers kick butt. Then we went for a walk in the cold cold wind to rent a movie. We thought of calling people, but didn't really feel like having people over, and we don't like inviting ourselves over to people's houses, or at least most people. So we stayed home, enjoying time with Brooklyn, thinking we would go somewhere if someone called. But the phone didn't ring even once all day. That does not happen very often, so it was a nice change.

Today though it's back to work, so I better go get some work done. Hope you all have great weeks.

Nose Picker

Okay so Brooklyn is sitting here beside me, suppose to be eating lunch. Instead she is laughing histarically with her finger up her nose. Somehow she finds it is now a very funny thing to have her finger in a new found whole in her face. She's just sitting here laughing. It's too cute, I can't do anything but laugh myself.

Old Time Memories

So, you get to a certain age when you can actually say stuff like, "Remember when we were kids...."
Well, at 26 I can say this a few times over. I can actually remember a time before, cd's mp3, and podcasts. I remember cassettes, 8tracks and records. Anyway, where i was going with this was that Sunday, we were at the Reimer farm listening and recording audio from Faith's childhood. Stories of Size small, and rack, shack and benny (way before veggie tales even existed) So as i was flipping through these old records of gospel music, it reminded me of the music in my parents house growing up. With christmas time coming up i thought i would post a song or two that might even bring up some christmas memories from a childhood gone by for some of you. After all, christmas time, more so than probably any other season of the year, brings back memories for most of us. (I'm trying to post a song related to this, but i'm new to podcasting so we'll see if this works or not)

Crazy Fun Weekend

It feels like we have just been running all weekend so far. But it has been lots of fun. Yesterday we had friends from Arborg over for supper before the guys went off and played in the EMCup. This morning we were up maybe an hour before heading out the door to watch my sister play volleyball. Today was a big tournament called the Zones. For those of you not into the sports around here... Zones is a tournament close to the end of the year where all teams in the same school "zone" get together to see who wins. Whoever wins gets to go to the Provincials. Go Landmark Go. We won. Or I should say my sister's team won, so they are off to the provincials in 2 weeks. That means that all of us kids have been to the provincials for volleyball. Pretty impressive I have to say. Anyway, we started our day there and went back later on as well. In between we were at the arena watching LeRoy play more hockey, and then home for naps. So really we were in and out of the house so many times we really only got home for a late supper. It was so much fun, but we are exhausted. Tomorrow we are watching the CFL double header playoff games, Go Bombers Go, at my parents. We will be warm and cozy, while searching the game seats for my brother and sister who will freeze. Glad I am not them.

LeRoy is one of the lucky few who has Monday off for Remembrance Day. So for us it is a long weekend, and we plan to fully enjoy every minute of it. Hope you all can do the same.

5 a.m. Laugh

I never knew kids could actually be happy, laugh, and make me laugh at 5 in the morning. This is what Brooklyn has done the last two nights. Here is an exact incident that happened early Monday morning. I am fast asleep, and wake up hearing this...

Brooklyn: Mom, mom. (whimper, whimper) mom, mom.

So I go to her room and she tells me in her rammble that she is missing her soother and can't find it. I have a good idea where it is, as it somehow always gets stuck between her crib and the wall.

Me: Oh Brooklyn, lie down and mommy will find your soother for you.

She lies down with the biggest grin on her face. I move the crib just a bit, and we hear the soother fall to the floor. Then of course Brooklyn has to say..

Brooklyn: Uh Oh.

I looked at her and laughed, she laughed back, got her soother, and went back to sleep so fast.

I'm sure glad that even when I have to get up in the middle of the night for her, she somehow makes it all worth it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Okay so it isn't quite Christmas season, but it is close enough for me. You see, I started thinking Christmas already in July. It the best time of year, so why not start early. I woke up this morning, looked out the window, and there was barely any green to be seen. Snow, snow, snow. I love it. When I wake up seeing snow falling, I seem to be more cheery for the day. Opposite of most people. I somehow seem to have a little more energy, but at the same time feel like curling on the couch by a fire and reading a good book. Thankfully we do not have a fireplace, otherwise that is what I would do all day today.

Why does snow make me feel like it is Christmas season? Because there has been maybe one Christmas in my whole lifetime that we have not had snow. That also goes for my birthday which is in December. It just doesn't feel like my birthday or Christmas without snow. But now that I am seeing snow, I feel like shopping tons for others. Thinking what they would really like to see when they rip that wrapping paper off.

Thankfully there is a much deeper reason to why we have Christmas. It's Jesus' birthday of course. In the next few years especially I am going to have to really try and focus on that, as this is my last Christmas with snow for a long time. I know it will be tough on me, because winter is my favorite season. So if you ever think of creative ways how to mail snow, you can gladly send some my way. Maybe I should make that a challenge. Wouldn't that be fun?

And the Verdict Is....

We have been officially accepted into the EMC Missions. So nothing much changes how things are going, except that it all feels so much more real now. We now wait till beginning of December sometime, to hear more information about what is expected for our internship, which will be sometime in spring. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers.

3 Months Left

For those of you who don't see us very often, we thought we should take a couple pictures of my growing stomach. So here is me, 6 months pregnant. Carrying totally different than I did with Brooklyn.

Uncle AJ and Me

I was saying earlier that Brooklyn had a blast this past weekend. Here is a video showing one part of this weekend, playing with her Uncle AJ. The laughter and voices you hear in the background would be my parents and Lisa. There is sound on this video because it was taken with their camera. Hope you can giggle along with us as you watch.

Our Wonderful Weekend

What a weekend we had. All three of us. Brooklyn had such a blast at Grandma and Grandpa Reimer's house and definitely was treated like their special girl. She got to watch my sister play volleyball all day Saturday and found it hilarious whenever the fans cheered for another point scored. She even went on her first date without us. Okay, with grandma and grandpa, but it sure sounded like fun. It's always fun when you get gifts from someone else right? This time it was Duplo. I'm so amazed at how much she seemed to grow up over the weekend. She learned to say nap and highchair, and now knows what a monkey does (she puts her hands by her armpits and acts a little like a monkey). Unfortunately she has had a bad cold since we dropped her off Friday, but thankfully she is still quite cheerful. We will see how she is tomorrow when we start potty training. AHHHHH!!

LeRoy and I had a wonderful QUIET weekend in the Whiteshell. It was so quiet it has actually been really weird hearing cars drive by today. We spent lots of time just relaxing, talking, hanging out, and spending time with God. So with all of that came lots of tears from me, thinking about our future and all the fears involved. It is good to be home, mostly for the fact that I could see Brooklyn again.

Our meeting on Friday morning went really well. It was definitely shorter than we had expected, only 25 minutes. We answered only 3 questions, but were encouraged by the others who have been on the mission field in the past. We will hear this week sometime if we are officially accepted or not. So once we have heard, we will let you all know.

One More Sleep

Tomorrow is big day for us. Scary, but mostly exciting. 10:00 tomorrow morning we are meeting with EMC's Board of Missions for our official interview. I think we are nervous, we haven't thought of it too much really, but we were told it wouldn't be as intense as a meeting we had a couple weeks ago, which is a bit reassuring. Please pray that we will have clear minds to be able to communicate what our hearts and minds are telling us.

The exciting part about tomorrow will begin shortly after lunch. We are dropping Brooklyn off at my (Faith's) parents and then taking off to Barrier Bay Resort in the Whiteshell. We are taking this weekend to celebrate our 5th anniversary. It is early as our anniversary is only in February, but we figured that isn't the best time to go anywhere since we'll have a newborn at that time. So we are very excited to have a weekend to ourselves. I will find 3 nights away from Brooklyn long, and we will miss her tons. But it will be a weekend needed to reflect, dream, and relax.

Silly Moment

Have you ever tried sitting on the floor with a container and orange pieces, and continually fill the container and empty them? I haven't, but right now Brooklyn is making it look like lots of fun. She had orange pieces for breakfast but didn't quite finish. So I left them out in case she'd want a snack throughout the morning. She decided they'd be much more fun as a toy or challenge, I guess. She got out a container and lid, matching ones even, and is filling her container, emptying it, oh she just found another bigger container. It is so fun to watch. Why do we even bother with all these other toys? Her game is now over since she decided to sit on her oranges. Better go change her. Hope you are all having a great week seeing the little joys of life like we are.

Encouraging Words

Last night we had another meeting in regards to our Missions Application process. We met with Ken Zacharias once again, as well as with Tim Dyck. He is new at the EMC Office and wanted to get to know us as we will be working a little with him as well in the future. It was intense, and a few times I had to fight tears. We talked about so many different aspects of leaving here, and starting somewhere new. Family, friends, marriage, kids, our calling, our lives growing up, and a lot more. It is definitely an emotional process planning to leave to go to a country you've never been to, leaving everything you are familiar with, especially family. When you are used to seeing people a few times a week, or at least once a week, it is extremely hard to imagine and even think of not seeing them for who knows how long. Oh boy, here come the tears.

While it is so hard to think about, we are still excited to know we are going with faith to where we feel God is calling us. Since we made the decision of planning to go, God has not stopped our path, which we feel is another sign that God is calling us. Some people have a specific time of calling, a specific story of how God called their name. We don't. We realized that our calling has coming slowly over the past 7 years. First while we were single, and got stronger as we got married. When LeRoy first took the job he's at, 4 1/2 years ago, we said that after 3-5 years we would look at where we were at, and where God was at in our lives. So 3 years later we began to think a lot more of what God had been doing in our lives. Our passion for cross cultural missions only seemed to be getting stronger, so we took this as part of God calling us to this ministry. That's when we made our decision to follow God's leading in this way, and picked up our application. And God has not yet to stop us.

Here are a few passages that we have found encouraging many times, and I hope that they can be encouraging to you too.

"So we have continued praying for you ever since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what he wants to do in your lives, and we ask him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better. We also pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God's holy people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and he has brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son. God has purchased our freedom with his blood and has forgiven all our sins." Colossians 1:9-14

"And the LORD replied, "I will personally go with you, Moses. I will give you rest-- everything will be fine for you". Then Moses said, "If you don't go with us personally, don't let us move a step from this place." Exodus 33:14-15

The second passage is great for putting your own name in as a prayer. "And the LORD replied "I will personally go with you, LeRoy and Faith. I will give you rest--everything will be fine for you." Then we said, "If you don't go with us personally, don't let us move a step from this place." Thankfully God will be with us every step of the way.

How far did we get?

So we actually almost finished Brooklyn's new room this past weekend. Thanks to LeRoy who did most of the work. He drywalled a bit, mudded and taped. Oh yeah, that's when I had to quickly rinse out Brooklyn's mouth from the mud she got into. Now we can laugh about it, but at the time it sure was not funny. Then LeRoy did lots of sanding and painting. LeRoy is also building Brooklyn a new bed, I might have mentioned that already. Once the bed is complete, I will varnish it and add that to the room. So when the bed is in the room we will take a picture of our finished product. We will then post a couple pictures of our before and after.

Hooray for another project done.

Thanksgiving

I try to continually remember things I am thankful for daily, but there is more thinking to it when it comes to Thanksgiving weekend. We all have so much we take for granted for everyday. For example we have beds to sleep in, TVs and stereos to keep us updated on our world, lots and lots of food, family and friends wherever they may be in this world, and we live in a country where we are not persecuted for our faith to the extremes of other countries. I have LeRoy who works so hard with hardly any complaining. I have Brooklyn who lights up our lives in new ways every day and who lets me get lots of sleep. I have another baby on the way, kicking me more everyday. What more could I ask for?

This weekend we will be busy, but mostly at home. We are going to attempt to start and hopefully be close to finishing Brooklyn's new room. For those of you who know our house, that little room upstairs that was our office? That will be her new room. LeRoy even built a little bed for her and brought it home yesterday. She was quite excited. Now we just need a mattress. Anyone have a good crib size mattress they want to get rid of? So we will be busy doing a little hammering, and then some mud and taping, and lots of painting and staining. Don't worry, with whatever I will be helping with I will be wearing a mask so baby will be okay. Sunday we will go to my parents for the day and hopefully enjoy some time outside on the farm.

So since it is Thanksgiving time of year, here is a question for you. WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR? Leave us a comment and share with us.

Bubbles

Here is a picture thing I created to try something new. I thought it was kind of cute since Brooklyn's nickname around home here is Bubbles.

So many new things

Brooklyn has grown up so much in the last couple weeks. She is now 16 months and says probably close to 25 words. Some being more, on, stairs, side(outside), please, ball, hot, cheese, eyes, ears and many more. It's exciting to hear all these first words and knowing she's making sense of things in her head.

Brooklyn also has become a little more of a girl in the last two weeks. She wants clips in her hair almost everyday, and loves playing pretend with her cabbage patch doll. I don't know if it is a girl thing or just a general kid thing, but she loves to help with whatever we let her help with. Dishes, laundry, raking leaves, etc. Everything. It's a lot of fun watching her learn new things, as we teach her the best we know how.

She also got her third eye tooth this weekend so we only have 5 more teeth to go. Brooklyn is now also officially done with her bottle. We had tried taking it away a couple weeks ago but it just ended up in too many tantrums. This past week we were gone almost every evening and it just worked out easiest for to have her sippy cup. She didn't argue this time around so the bottle is no more.

I'm sure there's more I'm not thinking of so I will update you far away family and friends once I can remember some other things.

Follow the Leader

So i was thinking a bit about our hiking trip. Well specifically about hiking for 2.5hrs in the dark down an unfamiliar trail. If it wasn't for Dallas, we would be royally lost. I'm sure God was watching over us too. Looking back it was kind of stupid to do that, I guess. But it did make me think about following the leader. I was behind Dallas, without a flashlight. I had to trust where Dallas was going, and whenever he'd say something like "rock", or "tree", or "mud" I knew i had to watch where i was going. I'm sure it saved me a sprained ankle or a booter. I've also been reminded how much Brooklyn likes to lead me and Faith around. If she wants to go somewhere, she'll come to me, grab my hand, and get me to follow her. She craves our attention so much, she'll do almost anything to get us to follow her where she wants to go and show me something. I was thinking about how God leads. Do I trust him, and follow, like I followed Dallas in the dark? How about like I follow Brooklyn. Do i allow God to take my hand and show me all the things that bring joy to His soul?
It was very good food for my thoughts anyway.

Physical Torture!?!

So, last weekend, Dallas , A.J., and myself went on a hiking trip. We hiked part of the Mantario Trail, which is in Whiteshell Provincial Park. We each carried about 35lb packs and hiked about 20 kms in on Friday, relaxed and recouped on Saturday, and hiked out on Sunday. The weather was gorgeous, with all the fall colors, and almost full moon, and clear skies. It was amazing to see the creativity of God. It was also very peaceful and quiet. (Do you realize how much ambient noise we have in our everyday lives?) I should say it was quiet except for the CN train that we heard every couple of hours, and the 10 other people that showed up at our site Saturday night. Anyway, it was an adventure worth experiencing, and something i'd wanted to do for a long time. I would do it again in a heartbeat. (Maybe i should get a new backpack though, eh, Dallas?) It was covered in duct-tape, and i had to put it on as if it were a pair of pants (the buckle broke). Here is a map and some pictures of where we were.

So Proud of Myself

Today I took Brooklyn to Anna's House for playtime. I am so proud of myself as it has taken months of trying to persuade myself to go. So thanks to some accountability from a friend we went together. For months I have noticed that it would really benefit Brooklyn to be around more kids, and to learn to play with them. I am one who is nervous to meet and talk with other moms. Yesterday I realized if I can't even do this in my own language where I am familiar, how will I ever meet other moms when we are in Mexico? That is one area I feel like I can minister and reach out, but I really need to get a bit more comfortable with it. So we went and it was fun. Mostly fun to see Brooklyn play around other kids her size and know there are others in the world like her. So hopefully now I will make more of an effort to go.

For those of you who haven't heard of Anna's House I'll explain a bit so you know what I am talking about. It is a family focused place moms can go, mostly for kids 0-5 years, to meet other moms and get great tips, advice, and resources. They have a few different programs for kids 0-12 months, and other programs offered every now and then for older kids. And for pregnant women like me they give out milk coupons and vitamins. YEPEE:) And every Thursday morning they have Playgroup where anyone can bring their kids and let them play with others, and enjoy a snack together. That is where we went today.

General Update

I've been trying to think of something new put on our blog, but couldn't really think of anything. We've had quite a busy week, so we haven't even had much time to write on here anyway. This last weekend LeRoy went hiking into the Whiteshell with my brother, and a friend so Brooklyn and I were left at home. Thankfully we were kept quite busy. One day we made perogies with Tara and Carter, and another day I baked (microwaved) pumpkins to freeze with my mom and sister. Thankfully none of the guys were too hurt on the weekend, and to tell you the truth, LeRoy hasn't really felt sore at all. Sorry Dallas and AJ.

This week I have felt more exhausted again and a bit sick after a minor gall stone attack, but today I have more of my energy back.

Brooklyn is still working on her third eye tooth, it's been swollen and sharp for about a week and a half already, but just doesn't want to poke through. She's definitely getting more and more of a toddler with her attitude, switching her moods with the snap of a finger.

Baby #2 is moving more and more this week which I love to feel as it makes pregnancy a lot more exciting.

If there is anything new with any of you, we'd be glad to hear about it.

Developing Personalities

It is so much fun watching different personalities develop and come out of little kids. Of course I never really paid attention to this aspect of kids growing up until Brooklyn. We see so many sides of our precious daughter and wonder where did this come from. Some days it feels like we are living with a 13 year old already, and other times still a young baby. I would say she can be a strong willed child already when she wants to be, and then other times such a goof. Lately the goofy personality has been out a little more again. That giggle she gives us when she tries to run away when needing a diaper change, or trying to hide from us when she knows we want to brush her hair. And I never knew that some things and routines have to be just exactly how she wants them, otherwise plug your ears. For example when we are getting her ready for bed, she has to have mommy hold her, or at least by her while she drinks her milk. LeRoy has tried over and over again, and it just brings more screaming. At least he can now actually put her to bed. That is an improvement.

I never knew that something so fun could be hidden behind the couch. But as I write Brooklyn has pulled out her diaper bag (she loves filling it with diapers), another backpack, and our laptop bag. Who needs toys when there are so many things to discover. I think I am learning to discover things through Brooklyn's eyes and trying to think of ideas of how to encourage her more and keep her mind going. It's definitely a struggle for me as I am not at all creative, but a struggle worth battling.

Church Support

Yesterday evening at our church's Membership Meeting, we were given the opportunity to share about going to full time missions. We shared about how we got to the point of making the decision, how we felt God calling us, and to ask for prayer as we continue in that direction. After we and 2 other couples shared, we were sent out of the room so they could discuss us. There were 3 couples in our same position so it took a long time before they told us we could come back into the meeting. We were starting to wonder if they had forgotten about us. We were then told that they were giving us their full support. To LeRoy and I that is always an overwhelming thought, of having so many people giving us their support and prayer as we continue on preparing to serve in Mexico.

Please continue praying with us for a team to come together. Thanks.

Two Feet & Two Hands

We had our ultrasound today and it was so reassuring to see two arms with two hands, two legs with two feet, and face with two eyes and a nose, and especially to see baby's heart pumping strongly. As far as we could see our baby looks perfect and healthy. So I am telling myself that really is how things are. But I will only feel 100% confident in that fact once I hear it from my midwife, since the technician today can't tell us anything. It sure made my day to see our baby, and to see the little miracle that God has blessed our family with. We were not able to get pictures yet, as we were in a bit of a rush afterwards, and it works a little differently at the Health Sciences with that, but hopefully in the future we will have some pics to post to show you all. I was tempted to put some up that we have of Brooklyn and just say it was baby #2, but decided to rather wait till we have this baby's real pictures. Thanks to God for protecting our little one.

#14

That's how many teeth Brooklyn now has. She cut her 2nd eye tooth this night. Last night she went to bed 3 hours later than her normal bed time, and that is not usual for her when we're at home. But now I understand why she didn't want to go to sleep. She's done that with some other teeth as well, so it now all makes sense. Only 6 more teeth to go. YAY:)

Little girls

Two of my cousins have had baby girls in the last few weeks and I can't see either of them as they are in Alberta. Jessica Raine was born August 20 (Holly is that right) to my cousin Holly and husband Scott. Holly and I are really close and when Jessica was born, I was so tempted to fly down for the day. Risa Danae was born yesterday to my cousin Jared and wife Dwylla. I think when others' have little girls, I can relate a little since we have one for ourselves. I don't know what it is like having a boy, maybe we'll find out soon, but there is something special in a little girl. Maybe boys are the same way, but I tend to think they are special in a different sort of way. Girls are sweet and just have a way of touching your heart the moment you lie your eyes on them. It seems all little girls especially grab their daddy's hearts and have their daddy's wrapped around their little fingers in no time.

As my pregnancy goes on, I think about this baby and what he/she will be like. Will we have another one like Brooklyn, or will this be totally different? Is he a he, or is she a she? We have an ultrasound next week, and I am so excited. We are not going to find out what sex this baby is, we want it to be a surprise. To us that is half the excitement. We just have to wait and see. What will our baby be?

A LOOOOOOOOOONG weekend

Today I am so thankful for friends and family. Why? LeRoy is working all weekend, so it isn't even hardly a weekend for us. He worked late last night, tonight, tomorrow (Saturday) and even on holiday Monday. Yes it is hard knowing you won't see your husband as much, but thankfully I have a few friends and a sister who are helping me with Brooklyn and helping to keep me busy. Yesterday 3 girlfriends and I went swimming in the afternoon, went for supper and then came to my place for the evening. This helps pass the time so well, and it is a little easier to take care of Brooklyn when there are other people around. Today my sister Lisa is coming over to babysit Brooklyn while I go to work, then staying the night, and watching Brooklyn while I work again tomorrow. So I guess I am thankful that I can work this weekend too, since LeRoy isn't home anyways. But I am very excited that it is my last weekend working although it feels weird knowing I will not be going back to Hull's after this next baby is born. Anyway back to the weekend thing. Sometimes it is so good to keep busy, so I don't have to think of the fact that I have Brooklyn more to myself this weekend. It's tiring running after a toddler. And I know Brooklyn will be really excited to see her daddy again tomorrow, as she hasn't seen him since Wednesday night. All in all it should still be a great weekend, because we're going to make it a great weekend. And weekends like this make me thankful for such a hard working husband as LeRoy is. We sure do love him.

As I read what I just wrote, I think I was a bit jumbled with words today. But that isn't so unusual for me, so hopefully it at least made sense. Have a great sunshiny day:)

Keep on Praying

We wanted to say thank you to all of you who prayed for us last week as we met with Uncle Ken regarding missions stuff. It went really well and our nerves settled quite quickly as we began to visit. Although we do not have 100% affirmation yet if we are accepted (we'll find out in October), we were given more affirmation that things look good. Our references need to get their papers in, and then the board of missions will discuss us, and we'll have an interview with them in October. And then we'll know 100% what our future lies. Or at least whether we are for sure going or not. What we do know pretty much for sure is that once we're accepted and have done a year of language school, we will be living somewhere in the Chihuahua State area of Mexico.

We ask that you would keep on praying along with us as we are not wanting to go alone. EMC Board of Missions really would like to send a team, but as of yet, we are the only ones who have applied for Mexico. We have been told there is some interested but still not 100% sure. We would really like to go with someone, as it would be a little less scary. So we are praying that someone will feel God calling them to Mexico with us, to serve in some way down there.

That is really all we know up to this point, so please keep us in your prayers.

The Gift of Giving

Some of you may have already heard, but last weekend Faith bought me the most extravagant gift ever. It was something that I'd had my eye on for a while, and we went and looked at it while it was on sale, but i had decided that i was okay with not buying it. It was a new camera. For one thing, I thought it was quite selfish of me to ask for a new toy, when I knew that wasn't exactly something that Faith would prefer to spend money on. AND even though it was on a great sale, it wasn't cheap. I was just telling Faith a few days earlier that I had come to terms with it, you know, we would be wiser to save the money, or spend it on more important things, not so selfishly. Personally, I sometimes struggle in this area, and maybe some of you do too, that when you set your mind on something you want to buy, or see, or do, you find a million different ways of justifying it in your own mind, even when the conscientious, or sensible side of you says otherwise.

Anyway, back to the gift. Actually no, the gift-giver. I have been marveling this week about Faith's wonderful gift of giving gifts. She loves to do things for others in this way. The way that she so unselfishly outdid herself by surprising me, well it amazes me. She wanted to see the joy in me, she said, when I saw her surprise me. You know how sometimes, or is it often, how our experiences with other people can color and change our perception of God? Well in this case this experience made me think about how unselfishly God blesses us with His gifts, some which we take for granted daily, just so that we may acknowledge Him and bring Him joy. Wow, I need to take time to be more thankful for what God has given me! It also again brought me to ask the question, "Am I an unselfish individual, willing to give of myself for others?"

And yes, on a lighter, less philosophical and theological note, I have had an awesome time taking pictures with our new camera. Faith says she was helping me fulfill a dream of mine, and yes she has.

Nerves....

I'm amazed at how nerves can control a person's day. Today I (Faith) am full of nerves about our future. I find it strange how a person can feel extremely nervous but also excited all at the same time, about the same situation. If you have no clue as to what I am refering to, I am meaning our future in missions. Tonight we are sitting down with Ken Zacharias (my uncle but also the head of EMC Missions) to find out what and how steps start to happen. I am so nervous about this meeting, but I'm not totally sure why. I guess it probably has to do with what our future exactly holds to get to the point of going on missions outside Canada. We are hoping to have some questions (we're not sure what those questions are exactly) answered, and just be informed as the progress of our application. For those of you who hadn't heard or read earlier, we handed in our application early July. So hopefully after tonight we can answer some of the questions we've been asked by others, a little more clearly. One question I think we can answer quite confidently is that we are hoping and planning to start language school at the Rio Grande Bible Insitute in Texas in August 2008.

I don't know if I have ever been so full of different emotions all at once, with the exception of waiting for Brooklyn to be born. Fear, nervousness, excitement, anxiousness, clueless, etc. These make me think back to when I first felt "called" to be a part of missions. It was before LeRoy was in the picture, back in my second year of college. It happened quite quickly, one morning. I woke up after a short night of sleep, and I was all of a sudden extremely excited to get out of Canada to spread the Good News. I started looking for orphanage's who needed help, Haiti was my dream. That dream ended once LeRoy came into the picture, but he also had a huge heart for missions. So together after years of pondering, praying, thinking, thinking, thinking, we felt that God wanted us somewhere else. A new dream. To live somewhere outside Canada, using our gifts to minister to the Spanish. So our journey and adventure has begun.

I am terrified to bring our little family to a place we've never been, to leave our family and friends, but at the same time extremely excited to begin a new adventure in a new land. To give what we've been giving here, to people out there. We've been shown over and over again that God takes care of our every need, and because of that fact I know God will be with us every step of the way, before we even ask for His help.

Please pray for us as we continue on this journey.

Memories

It's amazing how much time passes by since the last time LeRoy and I have just sat and talked. Yah we talk everyday, but the deeper stuff only comes out once in a while. Thursday was that day. LeRoy decided we were going to sit by the fire once Brooklyn was in bed, with some hot chocolate and catch up with how each other was doing. Well of course that type of situation makes a person talk. So we talked and talked and got a better understanding of where we were at individually and as a couple. We definitely need to make it more of an effort in the future.
Saturday was fun filled day of harvest time helping my parents. LeRoy drove the graintruck all day, back and forth from the field, while us girls hung out in the house, and joined the guys for supper on the field, a harvest time tradition. Here is a couple pics of Brooklyn enjoying the time on the field.

Yesterday was another great day with my family. The guys (Dad, LeRoy, AJ) went to Teulon to enjoy the tractor pull. LeRoy had never been which is foreign to our family as we use to go every year. Us girls took in an afternoon of shopping and supper. It's great to be able to make memories with family, to go out and do stuff, instead of always just sitting around visiting. It was a nice change.
We hope you are all doing well enjoying your summers as much as we are.

Camping

I (Faith) now know I hate setting up camp for only one night. That is what we did this last weekend, but it was not planned that way. This last weekend was our annual SBC camping trip, for whoever is around from our classes to come. The plan was to go to Birds Hill on Friday evening but because of a huge storm that went through there the night before, they had to close the park till Saturday. We were so dissapointed as we were almost out the door. Understandable though as trees were uprooted and they had a huge mess to clean up. Saturday morning came, and they almost didn't open then either, but finally decided to let us come. So we left late morning and got there shortly after 12 to make the most of the day. It ended up being an excellent weekend with friends, hanging out and just having fun. Brooklyn did so well (this was our first time camping this summer, so we weren't sure how she'd handle it) we are hoping to go at least one more time yet this summer by ourselves.
This week is just another week, hanging out at home. With the exception that I get to go shopping tomorrow with a friend. YAY:) A much needed outing for me.

Miracle

Yesterday we heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time. It was so exciting to finally hear it, to know there really is a baby in there. Thankfully the heartbeat sounded healthy and strong, along with some kicks. I first felt baby kick Monday night, and now every evening I can feel he/she do a dance for us. What a miracle babies are. Even after having Brooklyn, this baby feels just as much a miracle. To think that God created this human being, using me in the process to give it a home, and in 9 months a baby is formed and ready to enter this terrifying world. Amazing.

Pickles and other sour things

It has been quite a week, almost a sour week, that being the reason we haven't written. When you come back from holidays you hope for a quiet week, full of nothings at home. That was not the case for us. Brooklyn got sick with some kind of viral mouth infection which also came with a fever. She was miserable all week, and finally today is back to herself. She had canker like sores all over her mouth, inside and out. This made her feel horrible as it was painful to eat anything. She also had a hard time sleeping, the pain kept waking her up. Through all this she is also teething all four of her eye teeth. I am so thankful for health and glad this last week is over. This week was harder than when she had the chicken pox.
On a more cheerful note, I was so proud of myself last week. I canned pickles and peaches for the first time ever using LeRoy's great-grandma's recipe. It is so quick and easy that I had 4 jars of pickles canned in half an hour. Yes that is from start to finish. For those of you who have no idea why that is impressive, it is known to take hours. And yes they taste great.
Yesterday (Sunday) LeRoy and I went on a long overdue date. We went to see Bourne Ultimatum. What an awesome movie. We loved the first two, and this one was even better. For me it made the first two movies make a lot more sense.
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend as much as we did, and have a Blessed week.

Through Fresh Eyes

Well, lets say that having a holiday is quite different with a child than it is when there are only two. Definitely more tiring, but not neccessarily worse. It is a joy as a dad to experience things freshly through the eyes of Brooklyn. For example, I enjoy picking fruit and stuff from the garden, or standing in the mist of a waterfall. But it takes on a whole new meaning watching the excitement Brooklyn gets from doing these things.
I'm reading a book "To own a dragon" by donald Miller and it relates the excitement a dad has for participating in life with his kids to the joy that God receives when us, his kids, enjoy Him and everything He has given for our enjoyement. This is especially true when we involve our heavenly Dad in our daily joys, Miller says. It reminds me of a line from a Kutless song. "can't you see that freedom is sometimes just simply another perspective away"
Sometimes we all just need to look at life through a kid's eyes. It makes life less complicated

Our Holidays and New Pics

We have now added more pics of Brooklyn, and also from our 2 week Alberta trip. So what did we all do on our trip? Right now it feels we did everything. We (as in LeRoy, Brooklyn, and I, along with my mom and dad and sister Lisa, my brother AJ could not make it) started off by spending the first weekend in Edmonton, being with family and attending my (Faith) cousin's wedding. On that first Sunday we met up with my cousin Holly and her husband Scott, and enjoyed the day at the West Edmonton Waterpark. We had so much fun, as some of us had never been there. We also did a little bit of shopping, but not too much. The next day, lets see, that would make it Monday, we drove to Drumheller in mom and dad's van (we left our car in Edmonton) to see the hoodoo's, and a canyon, and continued on to Calgary for night. I was more excited for the next day as we spent the day at the zoo. My favorites were the hippos and giraffe's and elephants as we can't see those here at home. We then went to Canmore where we spent the next 3 nights. From there we did lots of driving to different canyons, waterfalls, and of course spent a day in Banff. While in Canmore one evening we had a huge hailstorm. We've never seen that much hail at one shot. Thankfully no one was hurt, and no windows on our van were broken, so we didn't need to take time to fix anything. It was so loud on the tin roof we were under, I can't believe Brooklyn slept through the whole thing.
From Canmore we stopped at the Columbia Icefields Glacier, and did the tour thing, on our way to Hinton. That's where we spent the next 2 nights. On our last day we drove back to Jasper and spent some time looking around as well as did a boat tour on Maligne Lake. After our last night in Hinton we drove back to Edmonton to pick up our car, and say goodbye to mom, dad, and Lisa. They were now on their way home, and we were heading up to La Crete to see LeRoy's family. That first week with my family was so much fun, but not very relaxing at all, as we had packed our days full, and had to drive lots to get to different places. Brooklyn was not impressed with all the driving, but we do have to say she did really well. Of course that might also have something to do with the fact she wasn't always in her carseat. But who can drive all the way to Alberta and make their kids stay strapped in the whole time.
Our second week of holidays was much more relaxing as we caught up with LeRoy's parents, brothers, and grandparents. LeRoy even got to golfing with them, and quadding which is always a highlight out there. It was the most exciting to see how easily and fast Brooklyn wanted to be with them. She would rather be with them than with me. That felt strange, but I was glad to have it that way.
Overall our holidays gave us many awesome memories with both families, as well as our own, that we will always cherish. It was filled with many adventures, as well as quiet relaxing times. I'm not sure what else to share right now, but I'm sure more things will pop up in our minds that we would like to share with you. That's all for now.

We're Home

Holidays are great, but it's always good to be home. After 2 1/2 weeks away, we got home Saturday night just after midnight. We will write some more later on, today hopefully, on our highlights and some stuff we did, we need to first try to remember everything we did. And we will be adding some new pics. We look forward to catching up you again, since it feels like it has been a really long time.

Our Future

Well, it looks like now our future is in the hands of God of course, but also our EMC Conference. Yesterday LeRoy went and handed in our EMC Missions applications. We've been working on filling these out for the past 4 months, and it was time to hand it in. It's an extremely scary thing handing it in, it's one step closer to doing what we feel God calling us to. At the same time it is very exciting for us, to begin a new adventure as a family. Please pray for us as we seek further guidance in the exact timing of when to leave (we are thinking August of 2008), and the steps needed to prepare ourselves, and our kid(s) for this full time ministry.

In the mean time, we are so excited to being going on holidays this Thursday for 2 1/2 weeks. We will be travelling side by side my (Faith) parents' van for the first couple days as we go to Edmonton for my cousin's wedding. Then we will join my parents and sister in their van to travel to Calgary (for the zoo), Banff, Jasper and back to Edmonton. This will take us a week. Then once we're back to Edmonton we will pick our car up and head up north to see LeRoy's family. We've been planning this trip for quite some time, so it feels weird that it is actually here. But we are very excited to be having a break. So hopefully Brooklyn will travel well and it can be a relaxing time even as we drive 12 hours on Friday. Now as for packing and getting ready, I better get going.

You know you're getting older when...

So our whole family, including Brooklyn, just woke up from a two and a half hour nap. It got me a thinkin'. It wasn't so long ago that I was complaining to my parents that they were old because they didn't want to do anything exciting on Sunday afternoon, all they wanted was to have Maduchsloop(nap).

Some signs that people get older are:
you spend your free time napping
your six-pack of abs has turned into a keg
speeding up your heart-rate consequently makes your pacemaker open the garage door
you have to write a note on your hand to remind yourself where you wrote that reminder note

Getting older isn't all bad actually. Along with aging comes the natural cycle of experiencing life events such as marriage, children, family vacations and naps. Memories are such a valued part of getting older, aren't they? Ever stop to listen to your grandparents tell stories of their past. It is the memories of days gone by, of ways that we've seen God being faithful, which oftentimes gives us strength to carry on through those days which seem difficult.

And remember, if you want to prevent alzhiemers, take a different route to work every now and then!

Southern Fried Chicken

I tried this recipe the other day and we absolutely loved it. It takes a bit of time, but really it's quite easy. I think I even liked it better than KFC chicken. I used this recipe for about 6 drumsticks, and still had half the mix left. We thought it'd also be good with shrimp, or chicken breasts as chicken fingers.
1/2 cup salt
1/8 cup black pepper
1/8 cup garlic powder
Mix these three ingredients and just SPRINKLE onto chicken. If you rub it, it will taste too salty as was my mistake.
2 eggs
1/6 of a cup water
Hot sauce
Mix these three ingredients together and add enough hot sauce to how you'd like it, but at least till mixture is a light orange. This is the second mixture the chicken will be coated in.
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp pepper
This is the third mixture that the chicken will be coated in. Once the chicken has been dipped in each of the three coatings, fry the chicken in hot oil that goes till about half way up the chicken. For drumsticks it too about 7 minutes on each side, so chicken breasts and shrimp would probably take much less time.

Marriage Moments

I hope we're not the only ones to have moments like this in the middle of the night. LeRoy sometimes likes to take over the bed while he is sleeping. The other night I (Faith) woke up to his chin right behind my head. So I sat up to get him to move over but instead he lifted his arms and decided to use my pillow for his arm rest. I grabbed his elbow to move his arm so at least I had a place to lay my head. He turns over grumbling something cause he didn't want to be woken up. I said to him "Well I need a place to put my head". With no hesitation he replies "put it on the floor". I couldn't believe he said that to me. I was so mad but it didn't take long for him to realize what he said and started apologizing. This type of thing is so frustrating when it happens but thankfully we are laughing so hard about it already. LeRoy can't even believe he said that to me.

Big Sister Love

Here's a cute story, according to us. We're trying to teach Brooklyn that there's a baby in my tummy. Of course, she's only 13 months, so she won't understand totally. Anyway, yesterday I told her there is a baby in my tummy. After we asked her "Brooklyn, where's the baby?" She thought a bit, and then lifted up my shirt to look at the baby. And then we asked her "Brooklyn you want to give baby a kiss?" She leaned over and kissed my tummy. It was so cute, if only we knew how much she actually understands. Aren't kids so precious?

I Was Tagged

Well I was told I was tagged by Tara, which means I have to answer a bunch of questions on this blog. So here goes.

What were you doing 10 years ago?
I would have been 14 years old, so probably really looking forward to summer vacation from school. And I think I was planning a trip by myself to visit my cousin Holly in Alberta.

What were you doing 1 year ago?
I was most likely feeding Brooklyn as she was only 3 weeks old, and I'm not sure what else I would have been doing at that time.

5 snacks you enjoy:
S'mores (even in the microwave), ice cream, crackers or chips with cheese melted on top, green frogs (the candy), and a nice slurpee

5 songs which you know all the words:
I don't know titles of songs so this may take awhile. Okay these are easy ones, I sing them all the time at home. Jesus Loves me, JOY JOY JOY (another kids song), Deep and Wide, Daddy's Girl (a song I sang to Brooklyn while rocking her to sleep when she needed it, a song me and my sister fight over hehehe), and If we are the Body by Casting Crowns

5 Things you would do if you were a millionaire:
Travel anywhere in the world with LeRoy
Put lots away for our kids
Pay off debt
Give lots to charities
Put away for retirement

5 bad habits:
Turn the computer on first thing in the morning.
Leaving the dishes till it looks overwhelming.(not as bad as it used to be)
Having our kitchen table be the place to throw things that don't have a place.
Leaving toothpaste in the sink.
Having the tv on just for noise.

5 things you like doing:
Reading
Listening to quiet
Making Brooklyn laugh
Surprising LeRoy with little things
Baking (if i have the time)

5 Things you will never wear again:
Patterned pants
Shirts that hang below the butt
Scrunchy socks
Scrunchy pony tails
Pink dresses

5 favorite toys:
Computer
any thing that comes new into our house
Camera
Swings
Barbies(as a kid, i couldn't think of anything else)

So, I don't know anyone else with blog, who hasn't been tagged, so I'll have to be the party pooper and stop this tag thing. Unless someone wants to continue it for me, that'd be fine too. Have a great day:)

Does Any One Else Love Life?

I'm sitting here on this beautiful afternoon, listening to peace and quiet. Brooklyn is asleep, and I should have my feet up. It seems that pregnancy makes me think about life, all the ups and downs. This week seems like a huge up for me.
Watching Brooklyn grow up so fast, lately it makes my want to cry all the time. She's running around everywhere, trying to talk all the time, and just learning simple things everyday that we take so for granted.
This week I have also been more in love with LeRoy. Yes I have to brag a bit. Monday he decided to surprise me and walked in the door after work at 4:00, instead of the usual 5:30. And it was a day I needed him home, as I've been exhausted with running after Brooklyn and this pregnancy. Then yesterday he came home and said we were having a date. To us this doesn't mean actually going out, but rather renting a movie and just being by ourselves after Brooklyn is in bed. When he came back home with the movie he also had some flowers he picked from our backyard. Isn't he sweet? These are the kind of things that really make me feel loved and cherished as a wife. The little surprises he does for me.
Right now life seems really great for the 3 of us, and we are so excited, more every day, that baby number 2 is on his/her way.

Just another bandwagon blogger

Yup, that's probably what y'all are thinkin. Everybody else is doing it so why shouldn't we. Well that's probably true, partially. But it sure makes it easier to connect with people we don't see everyday (AKA Mom and Dad in AB)

Anywho, we'll try and keep this thing going, and maybe even spice it up a notch. Don't worry, nothing too dramatic, after all, I'm just a level headed mennonite.(Ya, right)

So maybe you're wondering what the deal is with the blog name, visibletreasures. Well, we scratched our heads long and hard (i tend to do that when i have ticks), because we wanted something at least a little catchy. On one hand, it keeps you updated on the precious people in our lives, especially our little girl. On the other hand we wanted something that related in some way to our faith in Christ. Aren't our lives as Christians supposed to visibly reflect the treasure that we havein our relationship with Jesus.

Just a few thoughts from an overtired guy, hyped on coffee (LeRoy)
